Intention & Integration Groups

Whether you and your friends are going to Peru for your first Ayahuasca journey, or southern Colorado for a Native American Church ceremony, or Nevada to the Burning Man Festival, or just down the street to a private group experience with sacred psychoactives - education, intention setting and integration support are vital aspects of a successful transformational journeywork practice.

Processing your experience before and after it, within a supportive and loving community, amplifies the transformational process and provides a level of safety and support that is missing from solo medicine practices.  Some inner territories are well mapped and there are a lot of simple strategies communities can use to support each member in staying safe and having the most profound and healing experience one can have can have.  And in difficult scenario situations, to have an ally and strategies to minimize any harm.  Generally speaking, adequate preparation significantly reduces the likelihood of a crisis, and increases the potential for profound transformation.

A Medicinal Mindfulness facilitator can instruct community sponsors in preparation and in how to educate their community on the journey they are about to embark on. Before and after the journey experiences, the facilitator provides intentionally guided preparatory conversations and integration meetings to support depth, safety, integration and group cohesion.

Medicinal Mindfulness provides psychospiritual community support for groups and communities who are choosing to take entheogenic medicines at events, festivals and ceremonies.  We believe providing a container to a group choosing to do some inner work together increases group cohesion, makes the experience itself safer, and can support the community in the event of difficult transitions after the experience.

We call them “Pre/Post Meetings” for short.

We do this by working with a group sponsor who takes the responsibility for the container of the group at the events themselves.  We do not attend the events themselves but provide support before and after the events.

Educational Sessions and Intention Sessions include:

  • Information on the event itself and the substance being used so that participants can make as informed a choice as possible in whether or not to attend
  • Community building experientials and intention setting support to create the greatest potential for the best possible experience
  • Discussions with the sponsor and participants about the causes and conditions that can potentially negatively impact a participant’s ability to safely participate or integrate the experience.
  • Teachings on somatically oriented and transpersonally-aligned mindfulness skills to help participants navigate the psychedelic space themselves

Additional safety assessments and recommendations such as seeking the advice of a Medical Doctor or holistic practitioners are also encouraged.

“Post” or Integration Sessions include:

  • A safe community container for participants to share their stories of their journey
  • Creating conditions to increase the likelihood that the experience can be integrated into participants' lives
  • Crisis and difficult experience assessments and coaching on how to integrate difficult or overwhelming experiences

We are also available to provide ongoing therapeutic and coaching support. While no one can guarantee a “safe” experience for all participants, we have found that there is a significant difference in the quality and safety of an experience felt by journeyers when this container of support is provided.

Psychedelic medicines, even when used in very solid religious containers, may still create risks in physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health and wellbeing.  Working from a Harm Reduction model, we believe programs such as these that support experiences before and after them represent a necessary speciality of the guiding profession.

Additional Information

This is a community education and support group. Confidentiality and signed participation agreement is required.  This is not a medicine circle and no entheogens/cannabis are allowed in the space, nor discussions on obtaining/sharing illegal medicines.  Sponsors and participants take full responsibility for their participation in any entheogenic experience.  We are only providing harm reduction and prevention support before and after an event, and given the federally protected nature of some of these religious activities, we have no right to interfere with or suggest changes to the medicine circles themselves, nor would we want to.
